INSURANCE COVERAGE AND PROCEDURES
Our best insurance is safety awareness by the whole “Safety Team”, the National Organization, the Council, the Leader and the girl. Leaders should follow the guidelines in Safety-Wise, adhere to the Council policies and plan for safety with the girls and their parents.
However, even the best planning does not always prevent accidents. As a supplement to the individual’s own insurance, Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. provides activity accident insurance through Mutual of Omaha.
To meet the need expressed by leaders for insurance coverage for non-member volunteers, tagalongs and non-members, the council contracted with the Hartford Accident and Indemnity Company for an accident policy to be paid for by the troops. This policy also covers members on trips of over 48 hours. Trips over 48 hours are excluded by the Girl Scout Basic Insurance.
